Star Wars Zero Company Cover, Flanking & Shot Planning

Use Star Wars Zero Company cover and flanking to improve shots: compare live hit previews, budget movement AP, expose targets and choose safer firing lanes.

To improve a shot in Star Wars Zero Company, compare the target's Shot Breakdown from your current position with a reachable flank or elevated firing position. Move only when you can still afford the attack and survive the endpoint. Use Push or another setup action when a safe flank is unavailable.

Partial and full cover, flanking, elevation and destructible cover are described in EA's battlefield overview. Their practical value is the change shown for your exact attacker and target, not a universal percentage copied into every encounter.

Shoot now or flank first?

Enter the values shown in your targeting and movement previews. Replace the example inputs with the numbers from your game.

Fire from here

75%

2 AP · 1 AP remaining

Move, then fire

90%

3 AP · 0 AP remaining

Moving and firing leaves no AP to retreat. Check the landing position and enemy response before confirming.

Compares your entered previews by adding movement cost. If moving changes the weapon action cost, enter that new AP value. The in-game action preview takes priority.

Expose a target without exposing your own squad

Tel-Rea can move an enemy into a better attack lane. Kabb's Uppercut can also displace it, but a melee approach needs a safe landing plan. First identify the teammate who will take advantage of the new position, then inspect that teammate's remaining AP and sightline.

If you are setting up an allied Overwatch interaction, complete the watching Operator's movement and other actions before placing the cone. A cone covering the wrong destination does not become useful just because the displacement succeeds.

When a higher hit chance is a poor trade

A short flank may improve accuracy but leave the shooter in the open with no AP to return. On an objective timer, it may also move the only available interactor away from its job. Compare the entire sequence: movement, shot, end position and the next required objective action.

For an example, enter both displayed chances and their actual costs in the comparison tool above. Its sample values are editable inputs; it does not invent armor, cover or critical-hit modifiers.

Patch context and sources

EA's Patch 1.1 notes include a correction for attacks missing despite a displayed 100% chance and several Overwatch fixes. Those notes do not support the former claim of a universal corner-cover calculation fix on this page. Reviewed October 8, 2026; the decision table and comparison tool are editorial planning aids.
